Fantastic Day 1, August 6th, 2007
The BEST Program began August 6th ,2007 on the beautiful campus of Gardner-Webb University in Boling Springs, NC.
About 120 students registered from Burns, Shelby and Kings Mountain Highschools. Several other raising highschools were in attendance.
The day began with a speach by Mary Accor- Chair Couny Comissions and Johnny Hutchings- Commisioner. They encouraged the students to be business minded and attentive throughout the conference.
Mr. Skip Foster spoke on how to design newspaper front pages. He also distrubuted Shelby Stars Newspapers to the participants and promised delivery of newspapers throughout the conference.
Motivational Speaker- Donny Thurman encouraged the students to stay in school and participate in school activities. Also to be attentative and respectful to their teachers.
Others that spoke in today's session included: Mr. Brad Wilson of BBT Bank. He went through personal finance and talked to the students about the different faces of credit, banking and finance.
Mr. Ron Harrill of Wachovia Bank spoke about college scholarships that are available to students. After lunch the students used a Basic Business Model to begin their activities for the week.
